It is fortunate that we haven’t planned a concert for April & now we have decided to postpone the May concert with Jacinta Dennett & her harp.

Avi & Peter who were scheduled for June will also be postponed and the June guitarist Colin Devin who was planning a tour Down under has had to cancel his plans. We hope that we will be able to continue to bring you a selection of Gilbert & Sullivan with the Savoy Opera in August – keep watching the website
The Barwon Heads Chorale was due to sing at the Anglican Church at the Good Friday service, and of course this cannot happen – however you may like to listen to what was going to be performed Drop, Drop Slow tears & Power of the Cross

REPORT ON MARCH CONCERT

Our March concert really was one of our very special concerts as we had a return visit from the guitar duo,Johannes Moller (from Sweden) & Laura Fraticelli (from Argentina) who are married with a young son, Dario, & live in The Hague. Laura was wearing a gorgeous long red dress which really suited her performance!

They began their recital with three pieces from Johann Kaspar Mertz (born in Hungary in 1806 & died in Vienna in 1856.) He composed in the Romantic time of the Classical era & was influenced by Schumann, Schubert & Chopin! They chose 3 of his beautiful duets & performed them so superbly & intimately. They were titled “I think of you”, “No Rest”, & “Evening Serenade”.

Laura continued as soloist with a Tango from Buenos Aires by Amandos Roberto, saying if you move away from Argentina, you miss the music so much!

The Duo then performed a Costo Merangos Tango from 1920 which was the beginning of the tango style & only for the guitar. The second Tango was “Only for You!” & very lively!

Johannes then performed “A Star in the Sky” & reminisced about gazing in awe at the stars when he was a boy in Sweden; they were all so clear & bright! An amazing memory to have. Johannes’ final work was his own composition of variations based on “O Shanandore” which became the “Shanandore Fantasy”!

They dedicated the concert to 7-year-old Dario who has travelled with them for 4 months to 20 countries. Luckily, he loves to travel & speak 4 languages!

We wish you all a happy & Safe Easter holiday
